Roman Roulette

By Jane Ellyson

Unable to leave Rome due to an air traffic controller strike, Charlotte accepts an invitation to a party on a super yacht. A friend disappears and then Charlotte becomes an accidental stowaway as the yacht heads for Sicily. Inadvertently caught up in the international slavery trade and forced to choose between several unbearable options, Charlotte embarks on a bold plan to save the women captured by the Monk, and in doing so, to save herself.

Part thriller. Part romance. Set in the world of spies, super yachts and the mafia underworld. Roman Roulette pulls the reader in from its opening pages at a party on a yacht in Rome, to an old vineyard near Taormina in Sicily and back to Evans Head in northern New South Wales Australia.

What readers are saying

This isn’t a long book, but it packs a lot of punch. Its nonstop action and adventure keep you turning the pages. Mystery. Intrigue. Romance. Suspense. There’s plenty to keep the reader engaged. Charlotte is a captivating heroine, her mind always thinking of ways to get out of the jams she finds herself in. I especially loved how she managed to turn a dangerous situation into a presumed game to keep the victims from being aware of their situation so they wouldn’t panic. All quite clever.

This is a fast paced, quick read. The way it jumps about in places I found intriguing and the chapters that went back a few hours to fill in what someone else was doing work really well. The fact it doesn’t follow a linear timeline makes it a more enjoyable read. It’s the little things that make this book, like a character giving a nickname to a part of the lawn where someone took a leak, or the use of a reality TV show. It’s certainly not predictable.
